Project Overview
We teamed up with Ryan Companies to build Indian Creek Nature Center’s new Amazing Space. This project was extremely unique because, not only did the Owner want a sustainable building, they wanted to be the first NetZero energy building in Iowa. They also wanted to be the first nature center working toward Living Building Certification. To achieve that, very specific building materials were used including photovoltaic (solar) panels on the roof and ground, which provide more than 100% of the building’s energy; HardiePlank siding; auto-adjust LED lighting; Tectum ceiling panels for noise control; EcoBatt insulation and special tankless water heaters, just to name a few.
The new facility has a large auditorium with stunning reclaimed wood, a full-service kitchen, exhibit hall, all-glass bird room, conference room and classrooms, and an outdoor patio and deck. The new space has allowed Indian Creek Nature Center to provide even more programs and educational opportunities for our community.
